May 29, 2026 – Mariposa County, CA – The Alliance for Community Transformations (Alliance) has made the difficult decision to cease operations of the Connections Emergency Shelter program effective June 30, 2026.

After careful evaluation of organizational capacity and long-term operational sustainability, Alliance determined it is no longer able to continue operating the shelter program. The organization will continue shelter operations through June 30 to support an orderly transition process and maintain continuity of care for current clients to the greatest extent possible.

“This was a difficult decision that reflects ongoing operational realities and the organization’s current capacity,” said Hallie Wass, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance for Community Transformations. “Connections Emergency Shelter has served an important role within our community, and we are deeply grateful to the staff, partners, and community members who have supported this work over the years.”

“This breaks my heart,” said Candy O’Donel-Browne, an Alliance board member. “I understand it’s necessary because we don’t have the resources we need to continue this work, but I’ve been homeless myself. I identify with the need.”

The Connections Emergency Shelter has been supported by a dedicated team of staff whose daily work has provided stability, care, and connection for individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. Alliance recognizes and deeply values their commitment, professionalism, and the compassion they have brought to this work. Their efforts have been central to the program’s impact and to the individuals served over time.

Alliance has formally notified Mariposa County leadership, community partners, shelter staff, and clients regarding the planned closure timeline. The organization is actively coordinating with County agencies and community stakeholders to support transition planning and minimize disruption for individuals currently utilizing shelter services.

Over the course of operating the Connections Emergency Shelter, Alliance has worked to establish and strengthen critical components of emergency shelter services in the region, including operational infrastructure, partnerships, and service delivery practices. These efforts have created a foundation that we hope will support continuity and allow a future provider to continue building and strengthening services for the community.

Alliance remains committed to working collaboratively with County leadership and community partners throughout the transition period, with a continued focus on respectful communication, continuity of care, and support for affected staff and clients.

While this marks the conclusion of Alliance’s operation of the program, we are hopeful that emergency shelter services will continue within the community under future providers and that ongoing efforts will build upon and strengthen the work that has been done to date. At this time, there are no other planned discontinuations of services within Alliance’s remaining programs.
