Search Continues for Missing Hiker Jason Coughran
May 31, 2026 – El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that the search for missing hiker Jason Coughran continues.
As of Saturday, May 30th, 2026, there are a total of 192 personnel assigned to this search and rescue effort, to include both field search personnel and incident management personnel.
Early on Saturday there were 80 search and rescue volunteers who were inserted into Desolation Wilderness via an Air National Guard CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. An additional 60 search and rescue volunteers entered the vast search area by vehicle. 50 of those search and rescue personnel will be remaining overnight in Desolation Wilderness as they continue the search for Mr. Coughran.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank all those who are assisting in this effort to locate Mr. Coughran. The agencies and community partners assisting are:
