June 2, 2026 - SONORA, California – Following a series of evaluations by Stanislaus National Forest Recreation Specialists, the Forest has issued Forest Order STF-16-2026-07 cleaving closed Forest Road No. 8N13 and a portion of Forest Road No. 4N12, two roads in the forest’s higher elevations. Although the Forest generally had a mild winter, snow accumulations across some high elevation forest roads continue to prevent safe travel on some roads subject to seasonal closures.

As a result, the forest is issuing an extension of the seasonal road closure from June 1, 2026, through June 15, 2026, for the following roads:
Calaveras Ranger District
- Forest Road No. 8N13 (Stanislaus Meadow)
Sugarpine Ranger District
- Forest Road No. 4N12 (Herring Creek Road) at 18EV463 Junction.
Forest Road Nos. 5N01, 4N12, 5N40Y, 7N09, 7N23 and 17EV485 may continue to be used by over-snow vehicles. To utilize over-snow vehicles on these routes, users must determine that there is a minimum of 12 inches of snow on the route. Adequate snow depth provides for user safety and enough clearance between the over-snow vehicle and the ground surface to protect resources.
If determined the roads are sufficiently clear of snow and downed trees and free of significant road failures or impacts to allow for safe travel and to protect resources and roads from damage, the order may be partially or wholly terminated prior to June 15th, 2026. Conditions will continue to be monitored on a regular basis and when applicable, roads will be opened to allow public access. You can read the full forest order here.
