June 11, 2026 - SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday issued a proclamation declaring June 10-14, 2026, as “California State Parks Week.”
The text of the proclamation can be found below:
PROCLAMATION
The diverse wonders of California’s 280 state parks, from the towering redwoods to the sun-drenched deserts, are a source of great pride for the state, and attract people from around the world. These natural and cultural resources support climate resilience, protect habitats and promote their important ecological functions, and connect people from all walks of life to nature and the many benefits it offers for the heart, mind, and body.
California is home to the nation’s oldest and largest state park system. State parks create meaningful opportunities for Californians of all backgrounds to connect with nature, share memorable experiences, and become stewards of our shared lands.
Access to state parks, the coast, and public lands throughout the state is fundamental to healthy and vibrant communities. Through the Outdoors for All initiative, California is expanding access to nature, especially in underserved communities. Innovative programs like the California State Park Adventure Pass, State Library Parks Pass and Golden Bear Pass are creating opportunities for more families to access our shared natural wonders. The State Parks Forward initiative is driving forward the biggest expansion of the State Park System In decades, expanding existing state parks by 30,000 acres by 2030 and establishing three new state parks near underserved communities in the Central Valley.
State parks and outdoor programs provide a space for Californians to strengthen their understanding and relationship with nature while creating invaluable opportunities for families and communities to connect with each other. During the fifth annual California State Parks Week, I invite all Californians to explore these unique places and enjoy the many fun and fulfilling experiences they offer.
NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim June 10-14, 2026, as “California State Parks Week.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 5th day of June 2026.
GAVIN NEWSOM
