July 4, 2026 – San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office officials report that more than 10,000 pounds of illegal fireworks have been taken off the streets ahead of Independence Day.

The San Joaquin County Fireworks Task Force has seized:

■ Made 12 arrests and forwarded 13 criminal cases for prosecution

Illegal fireworks are more than just a fire hazard. They are often connected to dangerous criminal activity involving firearms, narcotics, and destructive devices.

A reminder that all fireworks, including Safe and Sane fireworks, are prohibited in the unincorporated areas of San Joaquin County. In cities where fireworks are allowed, only California State Fire Marshal-approved Safe and Sane fireworks may be used in accordance with local ordinances.

Thank you to our law enforcement and fire service partners whose teamwork made these enforcement efforts possible.

As you celebrate this Fourth of July, please do so responsibly. Attend a professional fireworks show or use only legal fireworks where permitted.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day, San Joaquin County!
