August 3, 2026 – Mariposa County Library officials announce they have exciting news. Starting on Monday, August 3, 2026, the library will be offering digital streaming services to patrons. This is being offered through the company OverDrive, the same company that provides us with our Libby eBook app. OverDrive has a digital video streaming service called Kanopy. The app can be downloaded on most smartphones and tablets, or can be used on a desktop computer. It can also be downloaded on smart TVs or with devices like Roku.

People can access Kanopy by visiting https://www.kanopy.com/mariposacounty and entering their barcode and PIN number. (Or they can download the app rather than typing in the URL, and provide the same details.) Kanopy will then prompt the user to attach an email address to the account.

Patrons are allowed 25 tickets per month to "spend" within Kanopy. Most titles are anywhere from 2-4 tickets. You can see how many tickets you have in the upper right corner.

There are a variety of titles. They don't have the newest blockbuster hits that are fresh out of theaters, but there are a lot of good, well-known movies. Kanopy is also known for its documentaries, series, and Indie films. 

Once a user checks out a video, they typically have 48-72 hours to watch it (the app will tell you how much time you have).

As of now, the app is available for ALL of our borrower types, including temporary residents. This is because there are no wait times, lines, or holds like there are with Libby. The films can be watched by an unlimited amount of people.

Patrons who have library cards in other parts of the country/state can also link the Mariposa Library Kanopy account to an existing account. In other words, people can have multiple library cards under one Kanopy account.

Kanopy for Kids

There is also a Kanopy for Kids option within the app. Users can select this for their children and the children's shows don't cost any tickets. Adults can also set a Parental Control PIN that will prevent children from accessing the main Kanopy collection.
