August 12, 2026 - KINGS COUNTY, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) announced on Tuesday the completion of the Corcoran Highway grade separation project in Kings County. The overpass is now open to traffic and marks the 62nd structure to be completed across the first 119 miles of active construction in the Central Valley. Grade separations throughout the county are projected to prevent 670 crashes over the next 30 years, including fatal, injury, and property-damage collisions. That translates to an estimated $137 million in public safety savings.
“The Corcoran Highway overpass is the second structure to be completed in Kings County this summer and will serve the residents of surrounding communities. The opening of this roadway will help improve traffic flow and east-west mobility as we continue construction in the county and near the city of Corcoran," said, Ed Fenn, Chief of Construction for the Authority

The grade separation project falls along Corcoran Highway, also known as Waukena Avenue, just northeast of State Route 43 (SR 43) between Fourth and Orange avenues. The structure spans 713 feet and is more than 43 feet wide. It will take traffic over an existing canal, Fifth and Orange Avenues, and the future high-speed rail tracks. The structure is composed of 28 precast concrete girders manufactured in Hanford, Calif., by contractor Dragados-Flatiron Joint Venture.

“We’re pleased to see the ongoing progress being made in Kings County along the high-speed rail corridor, especially now with the opening of the Corcoran Highway structure,” said Richard Valle of the Kings County Board of Supervisors. “The Authority is responsible for more than a dozen grade separation projects throughout the county, essential infrastructure that will help residents navigate around the project safely during construction and during future operations.”
This year, the Authority completed several structures including the SR 43/ Jersey Avenue structure in Kings County, the Road 26 grade separation in Madera County and the Ventura Street underpass in the city of Fresno.
High-Speed Rail Progress
Work continues daily on the high-speed rail project, with major segments from Merced to Bakersfield under design and construction. Nearly 90 miles of guideway are complete, along with 62 fully completed major structures and 30 more structures underway across Madera, Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties.
The project continues to advance statewide, with 463 miles of the 494-mile San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim system fully environmentally cleared and construction-ready.
Throughout construction, the project has created nearly 19,200 good-paying jobs – most filled by Central Valley residents – and generated nearly $27 billion in economic impact and growth across the state. Up to 1,700 workers report to high-speed rail construction sites each day.
