High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

August 30, 2026 – Plumas County Sheriff's Office officials report that on August 27, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a Plumas County Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of East Sierra Avenue in Portola.

The driver was identified as 62-year-old Bernard Bonavita of Portola. During the contact, deputies conducted a court compliance check of Bonavita's vehicle and later continued the compliance check at his residence in Portola.

During the compliance check, deputies located suspected methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, firearm-related items, high-capacity rifle magazines, and a suspected silencer. Evidence was collected, processed, and booked into evidence.

Bonavita was arrested without incident and booked into the Plumas County Jail on the following charges:

- H/S 11378 - Possession of a controlled substance for sale, methamphetamine - felony

- H/S 11351 - Possession of a controlled substance for sale, psilocybin mushrooms - felony

- H/S 11359(C) - Possession of marijuana for sale with prior conviction - felony

- PC 30305(A)(1) - Prohibited person owning or possessing ammunition or firearm - felony

- PC 33410 - Possession of a silencer - felony

- H/S 11364(A) - Possession of drug paraphernalia - misdemeanor

- PC 166(A)(4) - Violation of a court order - misdemeanor
