Human Remains Recovered from Temple Crag Area
September 1, 2026 – Inyo County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on August 27, 2026, at approximately 9:16 
p.m., the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of human remains located in the area of Temple Crag.
On August 28, personnel conducted operational briefings and monitored weather and conditions in the area. Due to weather and hazardous conditions, personnel could not safely access the area to conduct the recovery.
On August 29, 2026, an Inyo County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, along with members of Inyo County Search and Rescue, accessed the area by foot and completed the recovery of the remains. The remains were transported to the Inyo County Coroner’s Office for identification and examination.
The investigation remains active, and the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office will provide an update following identification and notification of next of kin.
