September 24, 2026 – Calaveras County, CA – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are providing an update regarding the threats reported at Calaveras High School yesterday.

Following the initial report, deputies immediately responded to the school, secured the campus, and began an investigation into the reported threat. During that investigation, and with the assistance of Detectives, it was quickly determined that the threat was fabricated and the individual responsible for the false report was identified. It was determined that the student reporting the incident was also the person who created the text messages.

There is no ongoing threat to Calaveras High School or the surrounding community. The campus was checked and was determined to be safe, and was no longer under a lockdown. Deputies remained on scene as they completed the remaining aspects of the investigation and assisted school staff with returning to normal operations.

When the original report was received, deputies had no way of knowing whether the threat was legitimate and responded accordingly. The school was placed into lockdown while deputies secured the campus, checked the school grounds, and worked closely with school staff to ensure the safety of students and employees.

The Sheriff’s Office takes all threats involving our schools seriously. Our deputies will respond immediately to these types of reports, thoroughly investigate the circumstances, and pursue those responsible when a threat or false report is determined to have been intentionally made.

Although this incident was determined to be fabricated, we understand the stress and concern an incident like this places on our parents, school staff, and, most importantly, our students. To help provide additional reassurance and a visible presence, the Sheriff’s Office will have additional patrols and personnel assigned to Calaveras High School over the next several days.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the students, parents, school staff, and community during Wednesday’s incident. The Sheriff’s Office will provide additional information when appropriate as the remaining investigative steps are completed.
