To start the assembly, third and fourth graders introduced the Buddy Bench they've been working on with Barbara Milazzo as their Service Learning project. The Buddy Bench is a safe place for students to sit when they are feeling left out, sad, or alone for any reason and want some company. The idea is that when school mates see someone sitting on the Buddy Bench, they recognize the person is in need of a friend at that moment and they go over to be inclusive, show their friendship, and see what they can do to help.
Third and fourth graders acted out a number of skits they had worked on with Ms. Milazzo showing examples of situations of students sitting on the bench and how students can respond.
In one skit, Weston Frazer, Reese Evans, Aidan Beutel-DePrano, Lily Grauman, and Elle Sexton act out a scene where some students make fun of Weston's jacket, Weston feels rejected and sits on the Buddy Bench, and other students come over to tell him they don't care about his jacket and he should come hang out with them.
Finally at this assembly, a student name was drawn out of the ticket jar for a special prize. During every month, as staff recognize students going above and beyond the norm with outstanding behavior, they give students special tickets. Students can either turn in the tickets to the office for a prize from the treasure chest, or they can opt to put the ticket in a jar for the end of the month drawing for a grand prize. The two youngest Core Virtues recipients helped Principal Bolar with the drawing.
Sayer Harry was the recipient of this month's grand prize, Minecraft Card Games.
