Northside Pet ConnectionFirst of all, loyal readers, we need to issue a sincere apology for overlooking the name of our dedicated Treasurer, Amy Hicks, in our last newsletter. Amy was appropriately recognized and thanked during our Annual Dinner in September. Unfortunately, her name was omitted in the last newspaper article. Again, we apologize. Amy is a volunteer, just like the rest of us, and we greatly appreciate her work.

Although the focus of Northside Pet Connection continues to be to support spay/neuter of household pets, we are also advocates of adoption of cats and dogs from shelters and rescue organizations. Have you thought about adopting a dog or cat? This is normally a very positive experience for the adoptive family and for the dog or cat companion selected. You might begin by visiting your local county animal shelter. Contrary to popular belief, animals at shelters are not necessarily damaged or otherwise undesirable. By and large they are animals who have never experienced a warm, loving home. You will have the opportunity to select a pet that will fit your family’s needs. For example, in some cases a “senior” dog might be a good choice. In all likelihood, such a dog would be house-trained, know basic commands, and so forth.

For those individuals and families who are looking for a particular breed, there are rescue organizations that specialize in one breed. Talk with your shelter for guidance or find websites that meet your needs. In the case of Stanislaus County, StanislausAnimalServices.com is the most searched site of the County website.

We’ll close with yet another reminder of our phone number for spay/neuter services: (209) 732-6194. Thank you.

Thanks for your interest in Northside Pet Connection.
