Gunshot Fired into North Auburn Apartment; Search for Suspect
October 2, 2026 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are investigating after a gunshot
was fired into an apartment in the Colonial Village area of North Auburn early Thursday morning.
Deputies responded shortly after 1:20 a.m. and quickly determined that no one had been struck by the gunfire. Deputies continued investigating while searching for the suspect.
Just before 2:00 a.m., the Auburn Police Department (CA) located a vehicle potentially connected to the shooting near Highway 49 and Fulweiler Avenue in the City of Auburn. Further investigation determined that the person believed to have fired the gunshot had been in the vehicle along with a man and a woman. The woman had been assaulted by the suspect and was still inside the vehicle. The two men had fled the area.
Deputies located one of the men nearby. He was armed with a .40-caliber Glock pistol. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of conspiracy (PC 182).
With the primary suspect believed to be in the area, the Auburn Police Department and Placer County Sheriff’s Office launched a large search. Multiple ground teams, aerial resources and K9 teams searched the surrounding area for several hours.
The search was eventually scaled back at approximately 6:30 a.m., but the suspect remains outstanding and the investigation is ongoing. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20’s, 5’9, with a medium build. He was last seen wearing light colored pants and a white shirt in the area of Highway 49 and Fulweiler Avenue in the City of Auburn.
Detectives are actively following up on leads, while law enforcement will maintain a presence in the area and continue searching for the suspect and pursuing additional leads throughout the day. The suspect remains outstanding, and the investigation is ongoing.
