October 10, 2026 - On October 6, 2026, the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors selected Spenser Wagner to serve as District Attorney for the remainder of the current term. Wagner’s formal appointment will take place once he establishes residency in the County and completes voter registration, as required by state law.

The District Attorney is an elected office. An election will take place in 2028 to fill the position following completion of the current term.

He most recently served as a Senior Deputy District Attorney in the Special Victims Unit for Madera County, where he tried jury trials and conducted numerous preliminary hearings.

Previously, Wagner served as a Volunteer Deputy District Attorney in Marin County.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis.

In his application for the position, Wagner identified having a positive impact on his community as his primary objective.

He added, “Serving as District Attorney effectively requires more than simply prosecuting important cases. Becoming a successful leader of the District Attorney’s Office entails working effectively with law enforcement partners, County leadership and the Board of Supervisors, the defense bar, and the Superior Court…. I recognize all of this, and with dedication and effort, I am confident that I will develop the office into a well-functioning department staffed by well-trained employees.”

Wagner and his wife intend to purchase a home in the Mariposa area and hope to close on the property in the near future. If issues arise with the home purchase, Wagner has identified a rental unit as an alternative.

Former District Attorney Walter Wall resigned from the position earlier this year.

Assistant District Attorney Jared Egan has been serving as interim District Attorney and will return to his previous position once Wagner’s appointment becomes official.
