November 3, 2026 - Washington, D.C. — On Monday, Rep. Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the House Committee on
Oversight and Government Reform, demanded answers from Secretary of State Marco Rubio after the Trump Administration allegedly helped bring Flávio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian politician under investigation for money laundering and corruption, into the United States.
“Donald Trump appears to have no problem pulling out all the stops for a far-right Brazilian politician who lost his election and is under investigation for corruption. Secretary Rubio should send Bolsonaro home to face justice and fully explain why this Administration helped bring him here. We are demanding answers,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.
In the letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ranking Member Garcia wrote, “While President Trump uses ICE as his personal police force to terrorize kids and hardworking people trying to support their families and communities, he has bent over backwards to bring to the U.S. Flávio Bolsonaro, a disgraced Brazilian politician under investigation for money laundering, corruption, and other serious crimes. If the President claims he doesn’t want criminals to come to the U.S., why allow Mr. Bolsonaro entry? Trump Administration officials’ ties to Mr. Bolsonaro—including your own—cast doubt on the motives for giving him such special treatment. The fact that Vice President Vance’s former firm has connections to one of the ongoing criminal investigations raises further questions about political considerations in this process. You should immediately return Mr. Bolsonaro to Brazil to face justice and be prepared to explain why the Trump Administration is welcoming a corrupt politician and government official fleeing accountability into our country while terrorizing Americans and lawful residents of the U.S. that you have falsely labeled as criminals.”
In September 2026, Ranking Member Robert Garcia demanded answers from Secretary Rubio and Attorney General Todd Blanche after they allegedly helped white collar criminal Alejandro Betancourt lead the Trump Administration’s unprecedented scheme to take an ownership stake in a Venezuelan oil company.
In August 2025, Ranking Member Garcia demanded answers following reports that President Trump and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele entered into a secret, backdoor deal that resulted in America’s release of dangerous MS-13 leaders back to El Salvador.
