“Nelder Grove, its History and Inhabitants”
The Mariposa Museum and History Center is presenting another Fireside Chat on Sunday, December 11th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. With Free Admission. Brenda Negley, author of “Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias”, will discuss the fascinating history and first written encounters of the Nelder Grove, its American Indian inhabitants, its ties to Mariposa History, camping and hiking areas, and sequoia ecology.
Brenda graduated from Yosemite High School in 1985. She then joined the U.S Army and after four years of service, she used her GI bill to attend the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science and Applied Learning and Development Degree, with specialties in Special Education and Earth Science. She later completed her Master’s Degree from Emerson Theological Institute with a Master of Religious Studies. She has been a teacher for over twenty years and a volunteer for the Forest Service since 2008, when she started “Friends of the Nelder Grove”, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the Forest Service in its public service responsibilities in Nelder Grove.
