January 8, 2017 - The historic Pioneer Cabin tree at Calaveras Big Trees State Park has fallen, it was uprooted by the current winter storm. The Pioneer Cabin tree was a living tree, known to many as the tunnel tree. The tunnel was cut through the tree in the 1880’s and was a popular photo attraction for tourists.

The trees collapse was announced by the Calaveras Big Trees Association on Sunday evening.
