Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth graders at Sierra Foothill Charter School each choose a historical figure from the around the time of the Revolutionary War.
They researched their choices and wrote reports. They wrote monologues based on their reports, memorized them, and got costumes together.
On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 the fifth and sixth graders made history come alive for their school mates, family, and community members through a living wax museum production in the multipurpose room.
The fifth and sixth graders stood in character all around the multipurpose room. Directional arrows on the floor let people know the path to follow through history.
In the waiting area, school groups, family members and the community looked at a timeline, student reports, and a map of the colonies as they waited. Small groups were led in. As they stood before each character, they pressed a button, and listened to the student's monologue.
Pocahontas (Malaya Shelton) was the first historical character that visitors encountered.
Guests and students including Chloe-Jean Blagg and Daisy Salonen listened to Aiden Pierson's portrayal of John Rolfe.
Celianna Lee as Phyllis Wheatley held the attention of kindergarteners Ares Goodman, Oliviah English, Madison Michael, Brylee Bean, and Ahsha Vaziralli.
Conner Eastman as Benjamin Franklin
Autumn Blagg as Margret Corbin delivers her monologue to a group of third and fourth graders and their docent, Malte Salonon.
Student monologues were very impressive. Congratulations to Erika Miranda and her fifth and sixth graders for pulling together a very special, historical afternoon.
