“The historic Post-9/11 GI Bill enacted by the Democratic Congress recognized that the heroes who wear the uniform earn their benefits with their service, not with out-of-pocket fees. Yet now, House Republicans are trying to take money from our troops and their families just for wanting the education our nation owes them for courageous, honorable service.
“We ask our men and women in uniform to fight and die for our freedom. Republicans should be ashamed of creating a GI Bill tax on active-duty and reserve forces for their education benefits. The GOP plan to claw money out of our troops’ pay disgraces our solemn responsibility to these heroes.
“The ceaseless Republican effort to ransack the benefits of the GI bill must be stopped cold. We should not be dumping a new burden on our troops and their families for the right to access their sacred GI Bill benefits. Democrats will fight tooth and nail to defeat this outrageous Republican proposal.”
