May 6, 2017 - WASHINGTON – The United States Mint 2017 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin (product code 17EL) will be available for purchase beginning on May 11 at noon Eastern Time (ET).

Produced since 2006, this .9999 fine, 24-karat gold coin features designs that are based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel designed by James Earle Fraser. The obverse (heads) design portrays a profile representation of a Native American, while the reverse (tails) features an American Buffalo (also known as a bison).

Each coin is presented in an elegant matte-finish hardwood box with a leather–like inset with a Certificate of Authenticity.
