ethan 3d printerThe Mariposa Library has a state-of-the-art 3D printer available for public use. Anyone interested in using the printer must attend a free class prior to use to learn Library procedures and basic techniques.

Classes will be held in the community room on Saturday, May 20 and Saturday, June 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Size is limited to 20 and preregistration is required. Register at the Library, call 209-966-2140 during regular library hours or email karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org.

All ages and abilities are welcome.

Ethan Stobbe, a local engineering student at U.C Merced, will teach the workshops, which will focus on designing and drawing 3D prints using a simple computer program. Emphasis will be placed on skills participants can continue using at home.

Stobbe has several years of high-tech engineering work experience and has regularly taught 3D printing classes in the Bay Area. He also volunteered to assist with the research, purchase and assembly of the Library’s 3D printer and ventilation system and has trained Library volunteers and staff in its use.

These classes are part of the Library’s Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program, which is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.  Funding for the 3D printer ventilation system was provided by STI and the Friends of the Mariposa Library.

For more information about the makerspace program call Karen Dusek, 209-966-2140 or email karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org
