Earth Day fell over the last Saturday of Spring Break (April 22), so Sierra Foothill Charter School celebrated the following Friday, April 28, 2017 with a very special festival organized by frequent substitute and volunteer, Dana Swarth. Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth graders created and lead informational and origami centers; the Sierra Foothill Conservancy led a meadow restoration demonstration; Michelle Gilmore and friends presented a soil demo; parent Marissa Maxy brought cricket cookies for everyone to try; parent Ashley Braselton led a station on wild edibles; Andrea Contreras' seventh and eighth graders helped students make butterfly masks; the Brown family brought goats and chickens; Caroline Korn led nature walks and bird watching; Michael Conley let students get close to his horses; Chelsea Stillwell was in charge of the bubble station; and Teena Starchman and Christy Lombard provided art projects in their classroom.
As students completed projects at various stations, they earned tickets they could exchange for fruits and veggies provided by Raw Roots Farms and prizes from the Festival Store led by Corinne Dedini. Gold, silver, and bronze painted cans were hidden around campus for students to find for bonus tickets.
Everyone had a fabulous time at this special festival.
