“Our new California Business Search tool is changing the way we do business. In the past, if you wanted access to basic business filings related to corporations, LLCs, or LPs, you had to make a formal request and pay a fee—and it could take weeks,” Secretary Padilla said.
“We live in an era in which nearly every aspect of our lives is enhanced through technology. At the Secretary of State’s office we are now scanning and uploading millions of documents, making them readily accessible and downloadable. We’ve already seen a significant reduction of requests for paper copies of filings, helping us operate more efficiently. Business owners, the press, and consumers deserve easy access to these important documents.” Padilla added.
Since the release of the enhanced California Business search in December 2016, millions of document images have been downloaded. That number will continue to climb as more people become aware of the tool and its ease of use.
Secretary of State Padilla’s Digital Initiatives touch every division of the Secretary of State’s office including digitizing exhibits through the State Archives, creating a mobile app for the Elections Division and continuing a partnership with MapLight that will provide better visualization of campaign finance information.
