May 29, 2021 - WASHINGTON – On Friday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) issued the following statement in opposition to the Senate bill to establish another investigation of the Jan. 6 breach of the ron johnson senator wisconsin official photoCapitol:

“As I did publicly at the time, I condemn the grotesque violence, repugnant racial slurs, and other illegal acts that occurred on Jan. 6.  All those who engaged in those repulsive acts should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

“Senator Graham and I called for an independent investigation on Jan. 13. Congress should not be allowed to investigate itself when it comes to the massive security failures of Jan. 6. Even as several other vigorous examinations are proceeding, I have been exercising oversight as well, getting answers by asking questions of the U.S. Capitol PoliceArchitect of the Capitol, Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Rules Committees, and the then-acting and former sergeants at arms of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. The American public has the right to know exactly what happened, what actions were and were not taken, and what planning and discussions occurred prior to the breach.

“As I told Mrs. Gladys Sicknick, Officer Brian Sicknick’s mother, Sandra Garza, and his colleagues Thursday, I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure all their questions will be answered even though we respectfully disagreed on the added value of the proposed commission.”
