May 1, 2021 - EL CENTRO, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management El Centro Field Office has released a decision to move forward with water system upgrades and campsite modifications to Lark Canyon Campground and Day Use Area and Cottonwood Campground. The sites are located in McCain Valley, a remote part of eastern San Diego County, near Boulevard, Calif.
“Providing recreational opportunities is an important part of our BLM mission, and I believe this project will foster long-lasting family memories around the campfire and conserve our natural and cultural resources in the area,” said Ryan Chatterton, El Centro Field Manager.
The BLM plans to replace the inoperable water system and modify the campgrounds to provide quality recreation experiences while conserving the historical, cultural, and natural qualities of the sites. The project was developed through a public planning process. Campground modifications include replacing picnic tables and fire rings and redesigning some sites to better accommodate visitors. The proposal also includes relocation of some sites from Lark Canyon Campground to the Lark Canyon Day Use Area, however, day use will be continued at the existing site.
