Arrest Made in Attempted Sexual Assault
May 19, 2023 - San Diego – San Diego Police Department officials report that thanks to tips from our community, the San Diego Police Department Sex Crimes Unit arrested a man wanted on attempted sexual assault charges. On March 25th at about 3:00 a.m., an unknown man entered the victim’s home in the 2800 block of Boston Avenue while she was asleep and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to get away and called police, but the suspect ran away before the officers arrived. SDPD’s Sex Crimes Unit immediately began to investigate the incident. The investigation led to a person of interest.
On April 7th, SDPD notified the news media that investigators were seeking the public’s help in identifying the person of interest and provided images of the suspect. As a result, the Sex Crimes Unit received various tips from the community that led to the identity of the suspect. Today, detectives arrested 28-year-old Darius Dewayne Hargrove for attempted sexual assault and burglary charges. Hargrove was already in custody at the San Diego County Jail for unrelated charges.
