2nd Update on Deadly River Conditions
June 16, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Saturday, June 10th, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Dive and Swiftwater Rescue Team was called out to Lake Clementine for a reported sighting of a deceased individual in the water. California State Parks also responded and helped with the recovery of the decedent. Upon further investigation, the decedent was identified as 20-year-old Erik Aguayo, of American Canyon. Aguayo was swimming at Yankee Jims Bridge about a month ago on Mother’s Day when he was swept away into the river. Aguayo was swept 15 miles down the river after going in – please do not underestimate the temperature or the power of the river.
Again, please let these incidents serve as an example and a reminder of why it is so important to stay OUT of the river. If you must be on the river, please contact a local professional river rafting company. Our condolences and prayers go out to Aguayo’s family during this extremely difficult time.
