Wanted Felon Apprehended After Barricading in Vacant Home
June 16, 2023 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on June 15, 2023, Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team deputies were on patrol in the area of Atwood Avenue and Liberty Lane, Moreno Valley. About 12:15 p.m., deputies recognized a wanted felon walking on Atwood Avenue. Deputies contacted the subject, identified as Oscar Castaneda, a 27-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, and attempted to arrest him for the warrants. Castaneda ran from deputies, entered a vacant residence on Atwood Avenue, barricaded himself inside, and refused to exit. Due to Castaneda’s extensive criminal history, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) responded to assist in the apprehension. After several hours and multiple requests for Castaneda to exit, the SEB entered the residence to detain him. Castaneda resisted and was apprehended with the assistance of a Sheriff’s K-9. Castaneda sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. Upon being medically cleared, Castaneda will be booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for his felony warrants and resisting arrest.
