June 19, 2023 - Plumas County Sheriff's Office officials report that a Portola resident called 9.1.1. reporting a fully engulfed structure fire at 76645 Rocky Point Road in Portola. Fire Personnel from Beckwourth, Eastern Plumas, Sierra Valley and Graeagle responded and quickly contained the fire to a string of connected cabins. The residents of the cabins were evacuated and one resident was transported to Eastern Plumas Health Care for medical care. The Red Cross will be working with displaced victims.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined one resident was not accounted for and lived in the most heavily damaged apartment. During the course of the investigations the missing resident was located and determined to be responsible for starting the fire. The subject was identified as Dale Clutter, 63 years of age from Portola and was arrested for the charge of Arson and under the influence of a controlled substance. Clutter was transported to the Plumas County Correctional Facility where he was booked and held on $10,000.
Investigators from Cal-Fire responded to the scene and will be conducting an investigation as to the cause and origin of the fire.
