June 27, 2023 - Nevada City, CA – Nevada County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a search warrant executed by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Detectives on June 22, 2023, in the 22000 block of Purdon Road, has led to the recovery of multiple items of stolen property from crimes reported over the course of the last few months in Nevada County.

On June 22, 2023, The SIU was actively investigating a vehicle burglary which took place just two days prior near Purdon Crossing, in Nevada City. The victim reported their rear window was broken out and several items had been stolen from inside the vehicle.  One of the stolen items also contained a GPS tracking device that was providing geo-location data that led detectives to the Purdon Road property. Detectives then sought and obtained a search warrant for the location based on GPS tracking data from the stolen property.

Just before 3:00 p.m. on 6/22/2023, several detectives and deputies from Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) and the Grass Valley Police Department (GVPD), with the assistance of California Highway patrol (CHP) Air Operations, executed the search warrant at the property. Several occupants located on the property were detained while a search for the stolen property occurred.

Items taken from the Purdon Crossing burglary were located at the property. Two stolen generators from an unrelated burglary that occurred in the North San Juan area months prior, were also located and recovered. All items identified as stolen property were later returned to their rightful owners.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives will be working with the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office to determine what charges may be filed in connection with the crimes involved.

We would like to thank GVPD and CHP Air operations for their assistance.
