June 29, 2023 - Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that police and fire officials were on scene of a train vs vehicle traffic collision in the city of Moorpark. Some of the cars have derailed but are still upright.
PIO representatives are enroute to the scene and we will provide further updates. Please monitor our social media.
Road closure: Los Angeles Ave. is closed between Tierra Rejada Rd. and Hitch Blvd. due to a train vs vehicle collision. It is unknown when the roads will become clear due to our investigation.
UPDATE: 06/28/23 @1:00 p.m. Moorpark Train Incident
A train enroute to Seattle (Amtrak Coast Starlight #14) struck a vehicle, causing a partial derailment of the train. Currently estimated 190-210 passengers were on board. Multiple agencies are on scene assessing, treating, and investigating the collision.
Passengers will be transported by buses provided by Sheriff’s Emergency Services to the Moorpark Senior Center located at 799 Moorpark Avenue, for family reunification.
This information is preliminary, more updates to follow.
A hotline has been established through the Sheriff’s Emergency Services for family, friends and loved ones to inquire about passengers aboard this train.
UPDATE 06-28-2023 Moorpark Train Incident
A Family Assistance Center has been set up 799 Moorpark Avenue for family, friends and loved ones to reunite with passengers involved in this incident. Please stay clear of the area if you are not there to reunite with a family member. Expect major traffic delays throughout the city.
UPDATE 06-28-2023 @3:55 p.m. Moorpark Train Incident
Photos from the scene show the extensive damage to the train and the truck involved. Officials are still in the process of reuniting passengers with their family members at the Reunification Center (799 Moorpark Avenue). The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all agencies who quickly converged to the scene to provide emergency services to the Amtrak passengers and crew.
