In-Custody Death
July 7, 2023 - Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Corrections Central Investigations, were notified of an in-custody death. It was learned Astrid Johnson, a 62-year-old female from the Coachella Valley, had been in-custody and admitted to a local hospital for several weeks due to an ongoing illness.
Deputies from the Robert Presley Detention Center provided security based on Johnson’s custody status. Johnson’s medical condition was determined to be terminal, and died as a result. She was pronounced deceased by attending hospital physicians. There were no signs of foul play. Johnson’s family was notified of her death.
