Update on Death Investigation - Tri-City Hospital
July 13, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on July 8, 2023, Sheriff's Homicide investigators were notified 43-year-old Zeke Davis, an individual in Sheriff's custody, passed away at Tri-City Hospital around 3:30 p.m. We extend our sympathies to the Davis family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.
During the booking process, Mr. Davis was medically screened by Sheriff's staff who determined that he should be transported to the hospital for follow-up. Once there, medical staff evaluated Mr. Davis and admitted him to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition. Mr. Davis was provided care and remained at the hospital until the time of his passing on July 8, 2023.
The Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy of Mr. Davis and determined the preliminary cause of death was cancer; the manner of death was natural.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation.
