July 18, 2023 - OROVILLE – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials have announced an offender who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program Martinez Justin BS6831 150x150(MCRP) in Butte County on July 15 has been apprehended.

At approximately 8 p.m. on July 16, CDCR special agents took 41-year-old Justin Martinez into custody without incident in Oroville, Calif. He was transported to Folsom State Prison. His case will be referred to the Butte County District Attorney for consideration of escape charges.

Martinez was received from Butte County on July 8, 2022, to serve 3 years, 8 months for two counts or evading or attempting to evade a peace officer while driving recklessly.

The MCRP allows eligible incarcerated people to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for men who have two years or less left to serve. The program links people to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support. Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
