Update: Death Investigation - Vista Detention Facility
July 19, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on February 1, 2023, just before 10:00 a.m., 33-year-old Ryan Thuresson, an individual in Sheriff's custody, was found alone and unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately responded, began CPR, and administered Naloxone. Paramedics arrived, took over life saving measures and transported Mr. Thuresson to a local hospital for further treatment.
On February 6, 2023, just before 7:00 a.m., Sheriff's Homicide investigators were notified Mr. Thuresson passed away at the hospital. We extend our sympathies to the Thuresson family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.
On Tuesday, we were informed the Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy of Mr. Thuresson. It was determined the cause of death was combined fentanyl and flouorofentanyl toxicity; the manner of death was accident.

As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation.
