Fire Investigation – Lemon Grove
July 22, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit is investigating a structure fire in Lemon Grove.
It happened on Friday, July 21 just after 12:00 p.m. in the 8000 block of Broadway. While on patrol, deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation noticed smoke coming from a nearby motel. When they arrived, they found one of the units was fully engulfed in flames.
Heartland Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and began putting out the fire. Several nearby units were evacuated as a precaution. Witnesses reported hearing a loud banging sound coming from the unit that was on fire, as well as seeing the occupant leaving minutes prior to the fire.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit were called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
