Shooting Death Investigation 

July 29, 2023 - Monterey County Sheriff's Office officials report that on July 27, 2023, at 12:10 A.M., Monterey County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were summoned to the 10600 block of Axtell Street, Castroville, California on the report of two men having been shot.

Following the arrival of emergency medical personnel to the scene, Frank Isaiah Morales, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where despite efforts by emergency medical personnel he was pronounced deceased.

The second adult male involved in the shooting incident self-transported himself to an area hospital with gunshot injuries and is expected to survive his injuries.

Personnel from the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division responded to the scene and initiated a criminal investigation into the incident and their investigation is ongoing.

At this time, preliminary information developed by Sheriff’s Office detectives during the investigation has revealed the two men were engaged in a physical altercation prior to the gunshots being fired.  Detectives do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public nor are there any outstanding involved parties.
