August 3, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that the PCSO deputies responded to two calls in different parts of Placer County around the same time, this weekend. They arrested a mail theft suspect and another who was suspected of possessing fentanyl for sale.

The first call came in at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, when one of our deputies responded to Auburn Ravine Road after reports of a male refusing to leave a business and harassing customers. The deputy began speaking to the male while a backup deputy searched his backpack and found the male suspect in possession of mail and financial documents belonging to a dozen victims. The search also revealed six counterfeit $100 bills. The male suspect, 45-year-old Suniasi Eteuati of Sacramento, was arrested for mail theft.

Just after 10:00 p.m. that same evening, a PCSO deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop in rural Lincoln and was led on a pursuit. The suspect vehicle ran through a stop sign, swerved into oncoming traffic, and the driver was seen throwing items out the window before coming to a stop a short time later. Deputies detained the suspect driver and searched his vehicle, finding several plastic bags containing just under 13 grams of suspected fentanyl, empty syringes, tinfoil with burnt residue, and suspected methamphetamine spilled on the driver’s seat. Deputies also searched the area where the suspected driver was seen throwing out several items and found two bags – one contained suspected methamphetamine, and the other contained an unknown white powdery substance. The suspect, 43-year-old Scott Ryan of Sacramento, was arrested for evading, destroying evidence, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and several other related charges.

As always, our deputies are committed to keeping our Placer County citizens and visitors safe, as we continue the battle to remove fentanyl off the streets.
