August 5, 2023 - San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, a facility search for narcotics in the jail area of the Morongo Basin Station was conducted. This area of the facility is routinely used to temporarily house inmates from other county court facilities who are scheduled for court appearances.
Numerous Morongo Basin Station deputies and a narcotic-detecting canine participated in the search. During the search of the facility, the detection canine located U.S. mail that contained suspected narcotics inside the inmate housing units. The mail was sent to an inmate currently in custody at the facility. The investigation is ongoing and is pending further laboratory analysis.
Detention staff continues to combat and stop the smuggling of narcotics into our correctional facilities. Using canine drug detection dogs and advanced investigation techniques, the team has successfully intercepted multiple attempts to bring illegal substances into county jails and state prisons. These efforts are crucial in maintaining the safety and security of both staff and inmates, as well as preventing the spread of drug-related issues within the facilities.
The detention staff remains committed to staying vigilant in their efforts to keep our jails drug-free and will continue to utilize all available resources to achieve this goal.
