August 11, 2023 - Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to a subject possibly armed with a handgun and threatening the victim’s life. Deputies responded to the scene and safely removed the victim and other occupants out of the residence. The suspect failed to comply with the officer’s commands but was ultimately arrested after a police K-9 was deployed.
On August 4, 2023, at approximately 7:25 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Wendy Drive in Thousand Oaks. The caller described being threatened by the suspect, Michael Erickson. The caller was in fear for her life and retreated to a back bedroom in the house with three other occupants, including two juveniles. The suspect was described as being in possession of a possible handgun.
Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Thousand Oaks Police Station responded to the residence and contacted the victim. The victim and other occupants were safely removed from the residence. Deputies trained in tactical negotiation contacted Erickson via cell phone. Erickson exited the residence and was ordered to the ground. Erickson initially complied and began to get on the ground, then stopped, stood up and began moving back to the residence. Despite repeated commands to stop, including warnings about the use of a K-9, Erickson continued moving back in the direction of the house. To prevent Erickson from going back into the residence to barricade himself and possibly arming himself with a firearm or other weapon, the K-9 was deployed. The K-9 was successful in subduing Erickson, and he was taken into custody. Erickson was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The residence was searched and several weapons were located including a loaded firearm, replica firearms, and a sword.
Erickson was arrested for violations of PC 422 – Criminal Threats, PC 417 – Brandishing, and PC 148(a)(1) Resisting, Obstructing, or Delaying a Peace Officer. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges in this case and Erickson was released from custody on August 8, 2023.
