Train Collision in City of San Diego - Pedestrian Struck by Amtrak Train
September 14, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that an investigation is underway after a deadly train collision in the City of San Diego.
It happened on Wednesday, September 13, at approximately 11:07 p.m. near the intersection of California Street and Grape Street in the City of San Diego. When San Diego Police Officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a southbound Amtrak train. The patient was transported to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU) investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District which Amtrak uses. San Diego Police requested the Sheriff's TEU respond to conduct the investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the man, as well as determine cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
