September 18, 2023 - SAN DIEGO – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are seeking two incarcerated people who walked away from the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP) in San Diego on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

At approximately 10 p.m., staff were notified that two CCTRP participants were seen leaving the facility. Shortly after, CDCR officials received tamper alerts for Diana Sanchez and Janelle Rice ankle monitors. Staff immediately initiated an emergency count, confirming Sanchez and Rice were missing. Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were directed to locate and apprehend Sanchez and Rice and notification was made to local law enforcement.

Sanchez, 31, is 5’7 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair.

Sanchez was received from Los Angeles County on March 6, 2023, to serve a 5-year sentence for burglary and the use ID of another to obtain personal identifying information.

Rice, 32, is 5’2 feet tall and weighs 206 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair.

Rice was received from San Bernardino County on February 6, 2023, to serve a 4-year sentence for robbery and burglary.

Anyone who sees Sanchez and Rice or has knowledge of their whereabouts should contact any law enforcement agency, or 9-1-1.

The Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP) allows eligible female participants committed to State prison to serve their sentence in the community at a CCTRP as designated by the Department, in lieu of confinement in State prison and at the discretion of the Secretary. The CCTRP will provide a range of rehabilitative services that assist with alcohol and drug recovery, employment, education, housing, family reunification, and social support.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
