In-Custody Death
September 19, 2023 - Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations, were notified of an in-custody death. It was learned Jess Flores, a 46-year-old male from Calimesa, was admitted to a local hospital for a recently diagnosed illness.
Deputies from the Cois Byrd Detention Center provided security based on Flores’ custody status. Flores was being treated for his illness when his medical condition diminished. Hospital medical staff performed life-saving measures. However, he was ultimately pronounced deceased by attending hospital physicians. There were no signs of foul play. Flores’ family was notified of his death.
