Robbery Arrest in Encinitas 

September 27, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on September 14, 2023, around 5:00 p.m., a male victim went to the 2100 block of Carol View Drive in Encinitas to sell several pairs of shoes. The victim met with a man and a woman in a parking lot where he handed each of them a box containing shoes. A third man approached the group, removed a gun from his pants and pointed it at the victim. Fearing he may be injured, the victim ran to his vehicle and got into the driver's seat.  The woman and two men ran away together with the victim's shoes. The victim's Tesla cameras captured the incident.

On September 15, deputies and detectives from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station were able to use this video footage to identify the suspects. They located and arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male and 16-year-old female suspect. The male juvenile was wearing a pair of shoes stolen during the robbery. Both were booked into Juvenile Hall for Robbery (211 PC).

Deputies and detectives identified the suspect with the gun as Jesus Manuel Quinonez (08/05/2005). He was also identified as a suspect in a similar robbery of shoes on September 11 in San Marcos. 

On Wednesday, September 20, SWAT teams for the Carlsbad and Escondido Police Departments served a search warrant at Quinonez's home in Carlsbad and placed him under arrest for the robberies. Carlsbad Police also identified Quinonez as a suspect in a stabbing that happened on August 15 in Carlsbad. 

During the search of Quinonez's home, clothing he was wearing during the Encinitas robbery, shoes stolen during the San Marcos robbery and evidence related to the Carlsbad stabbing were located.

Quinonez is currently in custody for robbery, possession of stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon and participating in a street gang. His bail is currently set at $300,000.
