October 2, 2023 - SACRAMENTO – The California Employment Development Department (EDD) has announced it has awarded $175,000 to help workers and businesses in Camarillo affected by the closure of the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility on June 30, 2023. The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County will use these funds to identify employment service needs for more than 90 of the facility’s employees, as well as the needs of surrounding businesses.

“With these funds, the Workforce Development Board of Ventura County will identify the local impacts, and how to best assist affected workers and employers,” said EDD Director Nancy Farias. “This is a critical first step in mitigating the effects of this facility closure and ensuring that local residents have access to good-paying jobs.”

The Workforce Development Board of Ventura County’s Business Solutions team will assist the affected workers and surrounding businesses with services including job fairs, hiring assistance, referrals to employment resources, and more. The funds will also allow the Workforce Development Board of Ventura County to further analyze and study the impact this closure will have on surrounding businesses so that they can work to stabilize their local economy.

Funding for this grant was provided through the discretionary funds made available to Governor Gavin Newsom in accordance with the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and administered by the EDD and the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency.
