October 3, 2023 - POINT REYES STATION, Calif. – Officials from the National Park Service (NPS) Point Reyes National Seashore and other agencies continue searching for a swimmer reported missing near Wildcat Beach Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., but officials are now calling the search a recovery effort.
The individual is a 52-year-old male, 210 pounds, with an athletic build and wearing black spandex shorts. He was swimming with two friends in the ocean when he went missing. A shark was seen but an attack has yet to be confirmed.
Two boats are being used in the search and recovery efforts today. Both have instruments onboard that are used to identify submerged objects.
A ground search will continue with personnel searching Wildcat Beach and scanning the area from nearby overlooks.
Cooperating agencies include Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Marin County Fire Department, Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Contra Costa County Department, Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.
