Fire Investigation in Santee 

October 9, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit is investigating a structure fire in Santee.

It happened on Sunday, October 8 around 2:00 p.m. in the 10000 block of Ashdale Lane. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department received calls about a house on fire. A neighbor first reported seeing flames coming from the backyard and dark smoke coming from the home.   

Deputies from the Santee Sheriff's Station and firefighters from the Santee Fire Department arrived in less than five minutes. They found the home fully engulfed in flames. A man living at the home was standing outside and advised his 80-year-old wife was still inside. Firefighters entered the home, rescued the woman and began administering CPR. The woman was transported to a local area hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital. 

Detectives from the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit were called to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. The fire was determined to have started in the garage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, the fire does not appear to be suspicious. 

The Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit is a regional resource that investigates fires involving suspicious circumstances, serious injuries, and death.
