October 13, 2023 – El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that this week the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) has conducted patrols of the Johnson Meadow in South Lake Tahoe. EDSO HOT located several illegal camps in the area. These camps were posted for illegal occupation in an effort to clean up this beautiful natural area.

The environmental damage these camps and ones like them create is catastrophic. The household trash and human waste often time finds its way into the Upper Truckee River which directly flows into the “Jewel of the Sierra”.

Efforts to clean up the camps, the garbage and human waste is ongoing due to the cooperation of the Sheriff’s Office, South Lake Tahoe Police, several volunteer groups, and other local agencies.
