October 19, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report on another successful stop by their deputies as they continue to eradicate fentanyl in Placer County.

On Sunday, a PCSO deputy made a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 80 near Riverside Avenue. He contacted the two occupants inside the vehicle and detained them while he conducted a search. The deputy discovered a loaded firearm inside a backpack behind the center console, over 20 grams of methamphetamine, and over 5.5 grams of fentanyl, colored to appear like candy. Additionally, deputies found several digital scales commonly used to weigh illicit substances. The investigation revealed the illegal items found inside the vehicle belonged to the driver, 44-year-old Kevin Coleman of Sacramento. Coleman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm, transportation of a controlled substance, and other related charges. The passenger, 46-year-old Kyra Ker of Sacramento, was arrested for her out-of-county warrant.

NOTE: Black market fentanyl distributors have been coloring fentanyl to make it more appealing to users as a marketing tactic. We again remind our community members to keep an open line of communication with their children and monitor their social media activity, as fentanyl is commonly marketed for sale across various social media platforms.
