January 6, 2024 - Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that on January 4, 2024, at about 12:20 P.M., Ventura County Sheriff’s Ventura County Sheriff logoDeputies successfully captured George “Rand” Akrey, a fugitive that had been on the run for about two years. Akrey was wanted for a previous assault with a deadly weapon charge in which he rammed a detective vehicle, injuring the detective. During his arrest, Akrey again attempted to escape by repeatedly ramming police vehicles with his truck within the city of Woodland Hills. Keirstyn Robinson was also arrested for aiding a known fugitive to prevent his capture.

In February 2022, Akrey was released from custody pending a court date for final sentencing on 21 counts of grand theft.  In April 2022, Akrey failed to appear for his scheduled court date resulting in five felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant issued for his arrest related to the theft and other charges.

In May 2022, Detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Unit located Akrey in a remote area of Lancaster in Los Angeles County.  During the apprehension attempt, Akrey used a large truck to ram a detective vehicle resulting in a serious injury to the detective and eluded capture.  As a result, Los Angeles County Superior Court issued a new warrant for the charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer.

Over the course of the next year, Investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office learned Akrey was using a series of false and stolen identities including false identification documents.  Akrey changed his appearance multiple times to conform to the identity he was attempting to portray, including changing hair styles/colors, and growing/shaving facial hair.  It was later learned that his girlfriend, (S) Kierstyn Robinson, was actively hiding Akrey from law enforcement and aiding in his effort to stay concealed.

On January 4, 2024, at about 12:20 P.M., Investigators from the Thousand Oaks Investigation Bureau - Major Crimes, Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit, and Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit located Akrey in the 21000 block of Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills. During the arrest, Akrey used his vehicle to ram two detective vehicles resulting in a use of force incident.  Detectives were able to successfully take Akrey into custody by using a series of less-lethal options to remove Akrey from the driver’s seat and prevent him from continuing to endanger the lives of the detectives on-scene and the public.

Akrey was arrested for the warrants and is being held without bail at Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with an arraignment date of January 8, 2024.  The new Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer Charges from January 4 will be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

On January 4, 2024, Robinson was arrested at approximately 1:30 P.M. in the City of Simi Valley without incident.  She was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $10,000 bail with an arraignment date of January 8, 2024.
